Something of our history

The Cherrybank Inn has been a popular venue for passing travellers for over 200 years - from its days as a drover's inn, where the horse-drawn carriages stopped for a break - a necessity before tackling the rest of the climb, hence the nearby Necessity Brae.

In the 1861 British Census an Alexander Cameron was listed as an Innkeeper (aged 44). He had a wife Janet, also aged 44and a daughter Isabella aged 8. The property is shown to have 7 rooms with one or more windows.

In the 1881 British Census a David Miller was listed as a Public House Keeper (aged 43), born in Auchtermuchty, Fife.
He had a wife, Isabella aged 48 and children Jane (18), William (16), James (14) and David (11)
